Attn: Peeps of The Peeg! Don’t miss this one.

19 May

Well.  Now you know about the Banned Book Club.  And hey?  I’d like to thank the 145 clickers who stopped by yesterday!  You folks blew any previous viewing record I had right on out of the water and I’m pretty psyched about that.  🙂

I do have another Books & Company project that needs sharing.  If you’re interested, of course. . . .

On June 2 at 1900h (until 2030h, give or take) we (at Café Voltaire) will be hosting authors Ed Zaruk and Vivien Lougheed.  This fantastic duo has agreed to come in and chat with all of our writers (aspiring, published, or just interested) about the biz.  They each bring something completely different to the table – for instance Ed is a self-published success story, whereas Vivien has published through established houses, so they can offer you sound advice on both of those options.  In the same breath, they have both been asked to bring some advice regarding the writing of query letters to the table and Ed has gracefully offered to bring in some of the rejection letters that have been sent to him over the years (I expect, if you ask nicely, he’ll tell you how to renovate your bathroom using these same rejection letters as wallpaper).

So c’mon down, grab a coffee, and listen to these sages as they share their wisdom with us!

(For more information please don’t hesitate to contact Books & Co., or visit us on Facebook!)

I’m a little jealous of the Banned Book Club… it sounds exactly like something I’d be into. Every year at UVic they have “Freedom to Read Week,” which showcases books that people have attempted to ban over the years – from Beatrix Potter to The Handmaid’s Tale. I take it upon myself to read them *because* someone tried to ban them. I’m on the Satanic Verses right now, but it’s taking me ages because I’m still so burned out from textbook reading. I have a long reading list for the summer though!

      We’re doing Satanic Verses next!

Jada. Create a banned book club. 🙂 Get people together and make it happen – that’s what we did. AND! Join us on Facebook and add your input, if you’d like. 🙂

It is incredible the books that have been banned or challenged. Incredible and sad.
